Foreword

 

The athlete himself is responsible for reading the competition rules.

Start

  1. The swim warm up must take place behind the starting line  6 a.m.
  2. The athletes must show respect towards the referees’ instructions concerning the set up and the starting position.
  3. False start (before the starting signal) will lead to disqualification.
  4. The race will start when standing in water.

Swim

  1. It is permitted to wear a wetsuit up to a water temperature of 24,5°C. The athlete is not allowed to get out of his wetsuit before entering the transition area. The athlete himself will put his wetsuit in his bag. In order to avoid loss or confusion, the athletes are invited to write their name on their wetsuit. The Belman organization will assume no responsibility or liability for the loss of wetsuits or athletes’ other belongings.
  2. In case of ban of wetsuits, the athletes will wear only a swimsuit. Wearing more than one swimsuit is not allowed.
  3. The use of artificial aides, paddles, gloves, socks, snorkeling gear, fins or other buoyancy aides is not permitted.
  4. Wearing the swim cap issued by Belman is MANDATORY.
  5. Only registered boats of the race management and water rescue boats are allowed to enter the swim race course.
  6. It is forbidden to take a short cut.
  7. The athlete is not allowed to use the bottom of the lake to propel himself, neither to take support to a moving boat.
  8. It is forbidden to give all of part of the swim gear to a third party at the swim exit.

Transitions

  1. The bike shoes and the helmet can either be put in the Bike bag or clipped on the bike.
  2. Regarding the Swim/Bike transition, the athlete himself must take his gear out of the Bike transition bag and put himself his swim gear into the bag.

Regarding the Bike/Run transition, the athlete himself must take his running gear out of the Run transition bag and put himself his bike gear into the bag.

The Belman organization will assume no responsibility or liability for the loss of clothes or athletes’ other belongings.

Bike Park

  1. At the check in, the athlete is allowed to clip his shoes on the bike.
  2. The athlete must take himself his bike from the rack.
  3. The athlete must respect the flow direction in the bike park.
  4. In the transition area the bike may only be pushed. The athlete is allowed to ride the bike only after leaving the bike park at the visible mark.
  5. At the end of the bike course, the athlete has to get off the bike before the visible mark in front of the transition area.
  6. Back in the bike park, the athlete will drop himself his bike into the bike rack corresponding to his race number.
  7. In the bike park, the athlete will push his bike and wear his helmet with a closed chin strap.

Bike

  1. Drafting is forbidden.
  2. It is mandatory to ride on the rightest side of the road at all times.
  3. The athlete must respect the road traffic regulations. Cutting corners on the turn is forbidden.
  4. The athlete must respect the drafting regulations. Drafting means penetrating the drafting zone of a competitor or a vehicle. The minimum distance between two cyclists is a rectangle of 10 m by 3 m, starting from the end of the back wheel of the athlete in front to the front end of the front wheel of the athlete in back.
  5. There is a penalty box on the bike track. An additional penalty box is located in the transition area.
  6. It is mandatory to wear a hard-shell helmet with a closed chin strap at all times during the bike race.
  7. The race number must be clearly visible at all times (not folded or cut) and must be worn in the back. Modification of the race number is forbidden.
  8. The athlete must repair his bike only with his own tools and spare parts. The organizer does not provide any assistance area.
  9. The bike sticker must be fixed on the seat tube in order to be clearly visible at all times. It is forbidden to alter or to reduce the size of the sticker.
  10. The helmet sticker must be fixed in front and on both sides of the helmet. It is forbidden to alter or to reduce the size of the sticker.
  11. The athlete who was overtaken must take care to establish the minimum distance of 10 m again by falling back.
  12. The athlete who was overtaken by a competitor must get out of the drafting area and establish a distance of 10 m. An athlete is overtaken as soon as the front wheel of a competitor passes his front wheel.
  13. The athlete MUST respect the environment and dump his garbage in the eco-zone just before and after the aid stations. Thanks in advance for respecting this rule and for being aware that the packaging of gels and nutrition bars are not environment friendly. Garbage may be kept on the bike or be dumped at the designed areas in the transition area. A violation of this rule will result in a penalty.
  14. It is mandatory to wear a race top on the bike.
  15. It is forbidden to carry a radio, mobile phone, MP3 player or other communication or entertainment media with earphones.

Run / coaching

  1. Coaching is defined as a support of the athlete during the race by vocal instructions and cheering. Coaching is generally allowed with the following limitations:
    – Electric or other amplifying devices are forbidden. All other forms of coaching where the coach moves with the athlete or pass the athlete (with a vehicle, bike, inline skates, running, …) are not allowed.
    – Coaching and information may only be given by the assistants on fixed points.
    – Coaching is only permitted from the side of the course, which means that the coach is not allowed to be on the official race or move with the athlete.
    – The athlete is not allowed to accept assistance or accompaniment of any kind or pace maker services.
  2. It is forbidden to leave the running track and to take a short cut.
  3. The race number must be worn in the front of the body and must be clearly visible.
  4. It is mandatory to wear a race top during the whole race.
  5. It is forbidden to carry a radio, mobile phone, MP3 player or other communication or entertainment media with earphones.
  6. The athlete must respect the environment and dump his garbage in the eco-zone just before and after the aid stations.

Time limits (cut-off)

  1. Swim cut-off: 1h15 for the Half Distance and 2h00 for the Full Distance.
  2. Swim and Bike cut-off: 10h30 for the Full Distance.
  3. Total cut-off for the race: 8h for the Half Distance and 16h for the Full Distance.

Environment protection

  1. On the way to the starting line, it is forbidden to wear sandals or flip-flops.
  2. It is forbidden to dump garbage (paper, empty bottles, plastic cups, …) outside the eco-zone just before and after the aid stations. A violation of this rule will result in a red card if the fault was committed intentionally, in a yellow card when the fault can be made good.

Final race results

The jury of appeal will determine the final race results.

The results will then be finalized. It will not be possible to appeal the decision.

Doping

With his registration, the athlete accepts to undergo a doping test.

The Belgian Triathlon Federation regulation is applicable.
